DIN 4871 - Development of a Standard for Personnel Qualification in NDT-CE
At the meeting held on 14 May 2018, the sub-committee on training (UA-A) in the DGZfP specialist panel ‘NDT in construction’, chaired by Dr Sascha Feistkorn, was reactivated with the aim of establishing long-term, consistent training standards for the non-destructive testing of concrete or reinforced concrete as DIN EN ISO 9712 is currently not used in the ‘construction’ industrial sector and does not fully cover the processes used. Besides the lack of concrete-specific NDT process standards, this factor must be considered because the further anchoring of non-destructive test methods and the usability of test results in construction practice largely depends on the knowledge of the executing personnel.
The activities focus on the definition of the structure and the content of different training focal points for industrial use, taking into account the practical building requirements and highlighting new training concepts. The developed concept was presented to the material testing standardisation committee (NMP) NA 062-08-21 AA at the end of 2019, subjected to a vote and set up as a DIN standardisation project in mid-2020. We are now working hard to finalise the first version of DIN 4871 ‘Regulation of qualification in non-destructive testing in construction – NDT construction’ by the end of 2021.
Training courses for NDT-CE personnel considering the ongoing standardization activities are offered in the NDT laboratory for the following procedures and test tasks:
- Visual inspection
- Rebound hammer and drill cores
- Magnetic-inductive methods
- Potential field measurement and magnetic stray field measurement
- Radar
- Ultrasound
- Impact echo
- Compressive strength verification
- Reinforcement verification
- Corrosion verification
