This duty encompasses on the one side the inspection of pipeline systems and on the other side the supervision of the operators themselves.
The FPI is required to inspect the following technical range:
During its inspection of the operating company, the FPI examines whether the organization and skills of the employees meet the high requirements that are placed on the operation of pipelines. It conducts emergency drills in order to test the operator's reaction capability, emergency organization and teamwork with the public emergency services.
It also examines the operating regulations of the company concerned.
Over the long term, the supervision of pipeline operation accounts for around 50 percent of the activities of the FPI.
