Building permits for third parties

In accordance with Article 28 of the Federal Pipelines Act, the construction and alteration of buildings and installations by third parties may only be approved with the consent of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE).

However, the SFOE has delegated this task to the FPI, which is empowerde to issue building permits to third parties within the scope of the applicable regulations.

In principle, all construction activities that are carried out at a distance of less than ten meters from the pipeline or less than thirty meters from an auxiliary installation require a permit. This applies to both permanent and temporary construction projects, as well as to major alterations to existing structures, including new buildings, road maintenance, supply lines, marquees, events, etc. The building application must be submitted online here.
